Anise “Ann” Baulknight Sawyer

Mrs. Anise “Ann” Baulknight Sawyer, age 86, of Zebulon, passed away September 11, 2025. Ann grew up in Miami, Florida, daughter of the late Charlie Baulknight and the late Hazel Smith Baulknight.  In her early years, she was a switchboard operator for the telephone company. She moved to Zebulon in 1981 and took a job as the Clerk of the Pike County Commissioners, a job she held for 25 years before retiring. She was a member of Mountain Gap Church at The Rock. She was an avid reader and a homemaker who was devoted to her family. 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Jenny (Jr.) and Charlene (Charles) and her great-grandson, Evan Hurt.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years: Harold E. Sawyer, Sr.; children: Hal Sawyer (Kay), Penny Herndon (Joe), Jeff Sawyer (Wendy) and Amy Payne (Mike); grandchildren: Danielle, Bleu (Jennifer), Kayla (John), Joe Joe (Holly), Nick (Kelly), Ashley (Jimmy), Brittney (Joe), Josh (Sarah), Kaleigh (Montana), Ally (Shawn); great-grandchildren: Celeste, Christopher, Logan, Shyla, Rylan, Sawyer, Easton, Lilly, Paytin, Taylor, Chelsea, Kylee, Noah, EJ, Jasper, Asher, Pera, Kandler and Ralphie Lane due in March; great-great-grandchildren: Kai, Kohen and Emmy; many nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Sunday, September 14, 2025, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the funeral home.  

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2025, 11 a.m., at Mountain Gap Church, 2746 Pine Valley Road, The Rock. Burial will follow in the Zebulon Methodist Church Cemetery.
