A Train - Truck Crash Claims The Life of One
A man died after his car collided with a train in Lamar County on Thursday morning, according to a report from the Georgia State Patrol (GSP). GSP said Victavius Davis, 35, was driving east in a tractor-trailer when he approached the train tracks on Highway 41 in Lamar County around 9:15 a.m. on Thursday. House Fire in Upson County
At approximately 0415 hours on July 30, 2026, Northside Volunteer Fire Rescue was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire on Stagecoach Road. While responding, additional information from dispatch advised that flames were visible from the residence. Between July 12 and July 15, 2026 the Upson County Sheriff’s Office received 4 complaints of vehicles being broken into with items stolen. These incidents occurred during the overnight hours in the eastern part of Upson County on Rocky Bottom Road, Rose Creek Road and Mud Bridge Road. A 60-year-old man died Friday night after his vehicle left Liberty Chapel Road and struck a ditch.
According to the Upson County Sheriff, deputies responded to a fatality accident at 10:38 p.m. on Friday on Liberty Chapel Road. After an investigation, deputies determined the 60-year-old Johnny Cheney, from Summerville, South Caroline, driving a black Chevrolet Sonic vehicle, was traveling north on Liberty Chapel Road when he failed to maintain his lane and left the roadway before fatally striking a ditch, per GSP. World War II era vintage Vultee BT 13 Makes Emergency Landing on Hwy 19 in Upson County
On July 17,2026 at just after 1:00 pm a World War II era vintage Vultee BT 13 A aircraft landed on Hwy 19 south near John B Gordon Road, inn Upson County. This location is approximately 5 1/2 miles south of Thomaston. The aircraft landed after experiencing mechanical problems. Person dies in mobile home fire along with pet in Spalding Co
The Spalding County Fire Department said they are investigating a deadly mobile home fire that happened early Tuesday morning. Crews were called to a home located on Old Atlanta Road around 1:58 a.m. One person and a pet were found dead inside the home following the fire, according to fire officials. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Shooting in Griffin
On Saturday, July 11, 2026, shortly after 10:00 p.m., the Griffin Police Department, Griffin Fire-Rescue, and Wellstar Spalding EMS responded to a reported shooting at Raymond Head Park, located at 800 Anne Street in Griffin.
