Benjamin Robert Maxedon

Mr. Benjamin Robert Maxedon, age 78, of Zebulon, passed away July 4, 2026. Ben was born in Martinsville, Illinois, son of the late Dean Richard Maxedon, Sr. and the late Delores June Shockey “Penny” Maxedon.  Ben was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. He enlisted in the military on June 10, 1966, and served until April 1970, earning the National Defense Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. After being honorably discharged, Ben earned his bachelor’s degree in business and history from Northern Kentucky University in 1978 and his master’s degree in business administration from Xavier University in 1980.  He worked in Logistic Management for thirty years.   

Ben moved to Pike County in May 1990 and immediately became active in his community. He founded Prayer Power of Georgia in 2008 and served as its CEO and Chaplain. For many years, he provided a devotional twice a day on The Rock 88.9 FM radio station as well as daily email devotions to subscribers. He helped form the county’s Invocation Policy at meetings and often started off local commission meetings with prayer. He began the annual Pike County Schools Prayer Walk in 2010. He hosted annual ‘Son Rise’ services on Easter morning through the Prayer Guardian Ministry, sent out monthly postcards to local, state and national leaders letting them know that prayers are given for them and offering words of encouragement. He accepted nominations and honored a local senior every year with the Prayer Power Faith Award and a community citizen with the Saints in Light award. He was a 2017 charter member and treasurer of the Pike County Christian Ministerial Association and the county coordinator for the National Day of Prayer Task Force. 

In the early 90s, Ben served as Mayor of Zebulon. He was a member of Meansville Baptist Church and American Legion Post #197 in Zebulon. He was an excellent writer who authored six books and he enjoyed woodworking. More than anything, Ben loved his family and treasured the time he spent with them. 

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his sons, Antonio Dean Maxedon and Paul Michael Maxedon, brother, Dean Richard “Rich” Maxedon, Jr., and sisters, Brenda Fay Maxedon Hitch and Diane Gamble.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years: Patricia Maxedon; children: Carlos E. Maxedon (Sori), Javier L. Maxedon, Rafael A. Maxedon, Francisco A. Maxedon, Kristopher M. Pope (Kendra) and Shannon I. Turner (Brian); grandchildren: Joel Maxedon, Karen Maxedon, Emaculada Maxedon, Tobey Maxedon, Emily Maxedon, Sawyer Pope, Natalie Turner, Layla Pope, Sarah Turner and Caleb Pope; great-grandchildren: Atlas Maxedon George and Mya Ann Maxedon; sisters: Tresa Maxedon Cummins (Michael) and Marla Maxedon Purcell; brother: Wayne Gamble; sisters-in-law: Brenda M. Record Maxedon and Gandi Jones; brothers-in-law: Ron Hitch, Sr., Doug Jones, Jr. and Leland Jones; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Rev. Kris Mullis officiating.  Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.  

Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.
