Mr. Bobby J. “Bob” Stephens, age 86, of Griffin, passed away August 2, 2026. His introductory sentence was always, “My name is Bob, any way you spell it, forward or backward, it’s still spelled Bob.”
Bob was born in Fayetteville, GA. He was one of seven children born to the late Arthur Victor Stephens and the late Sarah Gladys Carden Stephens, who were sharecroppers. He spent more than 60 years as a truck driver, beginning his career with Southeastern Freight Lines, where he worked for over 20 years. He later drove for AAA Cooper before retiring from Northstar Truck Lines. For several years, Bob was the owner-operator of his own trucking company. Throughout his career, he took great pride in his work and was recognized with the DOT Safety Award for driving one million accident-free miles.
Bob enjoyed fishing and looked forward to trips to Panama City, where he loved sitting on the beach, relaxing, and watching people.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughters, Sheryl Denise Redd and Alicia Gay Johnson, sisters and brothers, Elilzabeth, Elmer, Irene and William.
He is survived by his wife: Carla Stephens; children: Timothy Stephens (Angela), Mickey Stephens (Sandra), Rhonda Baughcum (Randy), Brianna Padgett (Mason), and Tanner Stephens; grandchildren: Justin, Jessica, Heidi, Mick, Angel, Jodi Michelle, Melissa, Josh, Lincoln and Masie; great-grandchildren: Abbey, Alley, Tyler, Ryla, Hutson, Adalynn, Lawson, Lincoln, J. J., Colton, Bella, Brantley, Chelsea and Madison; brother: Jackie Stephens; sister: Estelle Mann; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at 2 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor James Wall officiating. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.
Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at the funeral home.
