Brenda Joyce Owen Hampton

Ms. Brenda Joyce Owen Hampton, age 83, of Stockbridge, passed away December 3, 2025.  Brenda grew up in the Historic Grant Park community where she lived for 81 years. She attended Grant Park Elementary School and graduated from Roosevelt High School. Brenda began working as a switchboard operator for Southern Bell when she was young. It was during the time when operators wore roller skates to manage the switchboard. She worked at the downtown office on Ivy Street and the East Point office for a total of 42 years before retiring.

She then took a job at Atlanta City Hall as a secretary to a councilwoman where she worked for an additional 17 years. Brenda was feisty and known for solving problems and taking care of things herself.  She was once awarded an honorary badge from the City of Atlanta Police Department. 

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Owen, sister, Yvonne Brumbelow, brother, Ray Owen.

She is survived by her children: Charles Hampton and Michelle Hampton; grandson: Ian Hampton; and close friend who was more like a daughter: Angie Johnson. 

A family celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
