Carl “Buddy” Edsel Woods

Mr. Carl “Buddy” Edsel Woods, age 91, of Griffin, passed away August 1, 2025, at his home. Born in Harlan County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Edsel Woods and Mossie Depew Woods. After graduating high school, Buddy moved to Chicago and worked at American Can Company before relocating to Georgia, where he was employed at Lockheed in Marietta. Following his retirement from Lockheed, he returned to the can manufacturing industry with US Can Company in Tallapoosa and retired a second time.

Buddy took great pride in his yard, earning “Yard of the Year” and several neighborhood beautification awards. He was known for his green thumb and especially enjoyed propagating palm trees and sharing them with family and friends. A large swing in his yard became a favorite spot for his grandchildren and neighborhood children.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie Woods, great-grandson, Nolan Blake, brother, Jerry Woods, and sister Martha McCarkle.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years: Janell Woods; children: Mike Woods, Kathy Boggs (Spencer), Roger Woods (Audrie); grandchildren: Joey Woods, Tina Woods, Brittany Evans (Brandon), Blake Boggs, Mackenzie Boggs, Curtis Woods and Benjamin Woods; great-grandchildren: Rylea, Simon, Charlie, Luke, Ava, Jacob and Edy Grace; sisters: Rose Eldridge, Glenda Browning and Annette Turner; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the funeral home.  A service to celebrate Buddy’s life will follow at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hardie officiating.
