Daniel Walter Brinks (“Danny”) passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025. Born in Marrietta, Georgia, to Lloyd and Mavis Brinks, Danny led a life marked by dedication, kindness, and love for his family and community.
He graduated from LaGrange High School and attended North Georgia College before earning his degree in Business from Auburn University in 1968, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. Danny proudly served in the Air Force Reserves for 23 years, retiring with the rank of Colonel.
Danny began his banking career in Atlanta, Georgia, where he met his beloved wife, Mary Cravey Brinks. They were married for 53 years, sharing a life filled with love and adventure. Their family grew with the arrival of two daughters: Margaret in 1973 and Katherine in 1977. In 1976, the family moved to Thomaston, Georgia, where Danny devoted 35 years to Bank of Upson, ultimately serving as Chairman of the Board. During his time in Thomaston, he also served as Chairman of the Industrial Authority for Upson County and was President of the Community Bankers of Georgia.
After retirement, Danny and Mary moved to Greensboro, Georgia, and lived on Lake Oconee for 20 years. There, he enjoyed perfecting his golf game, cruising in his pontoon boat and dedicated time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. When Parkinson’s disease made golfing and fishing impossible, Danny and Mary relocated to St. Simons Island to be closer to family. Their new home brought them much joy as they spent quality time with loved ones, embraced new culinary adventures as 'foodies,' and became active members of the Glynn County Parkinson’s Support Group, which had a tremendous impact on his life.
An avid golfer, fisherman, and traveler, Danny embraced life with enthusiasm and a love for the outdoors. Known for his sharp dressing, great personality, and memorable laugh, he was a thoughtful and kind man who cherished his family above all else. His passion for running and later walking reflected his commitment to health and vitality.
Danny found his greatest joy in his three grandchildren—Preston, Maggie, and Ann—whom he adored and proudly celebrated to all who would listen. Throughout his battle with Parkinson’s disease, he faced each day with grace and courage.
He is survived by his wife, Mary C. Brinks; daughters Margaret Sheets (Paul) and Katherine Timberlake (Brian); grandchildren Preston Brown (Julia), Maggie Brown, and Ann Timberlake; sister Mary Meadows; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A service to honor Danny’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Glynn County Parkinson’s Support Group, 1700 Frederica Road, Suite 229, St. Simons Island, GA 31522, or online at GCParkinsons.org.
Daniel Walter Brinks will be remembered as a loving family man, a devoted community member, and a source of strength and kindness to all who knew him.
