Edward Walter Akerman of McDonough, Georgia was born on September 15, 1950, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, at the age of 74. Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick Frank and Lucy Mae, his brothers Patrick, Albert, Jim and his sister Gloria, and great-grandson Grant.
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Nina, his sons, David and Michael, his brothers, Bob, Charlie (Julie), Jerry (Diana), and his sister, Dorothy (John), granddaughters, Katelynn and Parker, and many nieces and nephews.
Ed graduated from Oklahoma University. He was once President of his Mensa Chapter. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He retired from All Star Amusements in Griffin, GA. Ed Enjoyed singing and listening to music. He was the lead singer in two separate local bands in Shawnee and nearby towns. He loved to travel, cruise, and camp. He always looked forward to dominos games with his brothers, Charlie and Jerry, and their friend Carl Matthews. He loved classic cars and acting. He actually had a small role as a featured background actor in a scene of The Underdogs, starring Snoop Dogg.
Those who knew Ed will remember him for his sense of humor, his pranks, and jokes. But they will also remember his kindness, patience, and his willingness to serve those in need.
He was a good, honest Christian man who dedicated many hours in volunteer work to help others in need. He was a true example of Christ like Charity. He had a rare gift of making people laugh. He left a lasting impact on all those he encountered on his path.
Viewing will be held on Monday June 2nd from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home, 10170 US 19 Zebulon, Georgia 30295.
The funeral will take place on Tuesday June 3rd at 10:00AM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 605 Maddox Rd. Griffin, GA 30224. A link will be provided for those who are unable to attend.
Burial will follow in Fincher Memorial Cemetery in Meansville.
