Mrs. Euretha Inez "Ressie" Laughter Stevens, a cherished wife and mother, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Upson Regional Medical Center with her daughter by her side. She was 73.
Ressie was born on March 13, 1953, in Thomaston, Georgia. Ressie lived a life marked by dedication to her family. She attended R.E. Lee Institute. Ressie devoted much of her career to insurance sales, working with both Aetna and American General. She also took on the role of bookkeeper, supporting her husband Phil’s business ventures. In her later years, she embraced the role of homemaker, creating a warm and nurturing home environment.
Ressie was a lifelong member of Mudbridge Baptist Church, the very church her father founded. Her daily routines were simple yet meaningful—she found joy in cooking, cleaning, tending her flowers, and caring for her beloved cat, Katie, along with many other fur babies throughout her life.
Ressie is survived by her daughter, Christie (Richard) Neely of Birmingham, as well as several nieces and nephews who remember her fondly. Ressie was preceded in death by her parents, Zeb V. Laughter and Mary Frances Harmon Laughter; her husband, Philip Stevens; and five siblings.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 6, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, at Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. A concluding prayer will be held at the conclusion of the visitation.
Ressie loved flowers, so flowers will be welcomed, or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donors' choice. Though she will be missed by those closest to her, Ressie’s quiet strength, steadfast faith, and tender care remain a lasting tribute to a life well-lived.
Fletcher-Day Funeral Home of Thomaston is in charge of all arrangements. Condolences and remembrances may be expressed at www.fletcherdayfuneralhome.com.
