Effective Saturday, August 30, 2025, Frank Strickland will assume the role of Public Safety Director/Chief of Police for the City of Griffin. As Public Safety Director and Chief of Police, Strickland will oversee the Fire Department, which will remain under the leadership of Chief John Hamilton, and will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Police Department, the management and direction of a workforce of 83 sworn police officers, 66 firefighters, and 18 civilian personnel within the Police and Fire Departments.
Chief Strickland was previously employed by the City of Griffin from 2002 through 2015. He began his law enforcement career in 1976 with the University of Georgia Police Department and has been a Police Chief since 1979. His career spans from Athens to Augusta, Fort Valley, Toccoa, Tifton, and Griffin. Chief Strickland is known for his community-oriented policing practices, his emphasis on training and education, and his dedication to the citizens of the communities he serves. Chief Strickland led the City of Griffin to its first national accreditation in August 2006.
He has been married to his wife, Deanna “Robyn” Strickland, for thirty years and has four children and eight grandchildren. He is active in his church, Brookfield Baptist Church, in Tifton. His varied experience throughout the State will make him a successful asset to the City and will provide a positive impact to the Police Department, Fire Department, and City of Griffin organization and community for many years to come.
I am confident that Chief Strickland’s leadership will allow us to fulfill the mission of the City of Griffin to protect and enhance the quality of life by providing a high level of service for all the citizens.
