Mr. Homer James Richardson, lovingly referred to as HJ by those close to him, passed away May 25, 2025. Homer grew up in Brooklett, GA but was a resident of Jonesboro most of his life. He was the son of the late John William Richardson and the late Charlie Sue Waters Richardson (Mama). At a young age, Homer began working in the tobacco fields on his family’s farm. He later took a job with Owens-Illinois in Hapeville where he worked for 30 years before retiring. He spent many years taking care of his Mama before her passing- he loved her more than anything.
Homer was an avid sports fan. He loved his Atlanta Braves, Georgia Bulldogs and the Falcons. He was always watching a game, and recently became fond of basketball as well. Homer loved to go out to eat at various restaurants or drive around visiting family members. In his spare time, Homer loved to go to flea markets & auctions. He was known for always coming home from his outings with a knife, gun or quilt and he would proudly show off his finds to everyone.
If he wasn't at the flea market, you could find Homer at the American Legion Post #258 in Jonesboro. He enjoyed visiting with the regulars there, watching a game, or even volunteering in the kitchen. Everyone there treated him like family and he spoke fondly of all of the members that he befriended there.
In addition to his parents, his sisters, Cheryl Richardson & Sara Parsons, and a great niece, Aspen Riddle, he was also preceded in death by his best friend - his beloved dog Otis.
He is survived by his brother: Richard Richardson (Carol); sisters: Barbara Sue Aeger (Barry) and Julia Marie Tague; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service to celebrate HJ's life is being planned.
