Lewis Murrah Wainwright

Mr. Lewis Murrah Wainwright, age 90, of Thomaston, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Fletcher-Day Funeral Home. Dr. Rex King and Rev. Chet Yates will officiate, and interment will follow in Upson Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of service.

Mr. Wainwright was born on May 26, 1935, in Taylor County, Georgia, to the late Homer Jackson Wainwright and the late Mattie Lee Crane Wainwright. He served his country honorably in the United States Army as an HC crewman in the 116th Transportation Corps. Following his military service, he began his career with B.F. Goodrich Martha Mills, where he retired after 39 years as supervisor of the twisting department. A man who loved the outdoors, Mr. Wainwright enjoyed fishing, camping, woodworking, and mechanics. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family—especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren—who were the true lights of his life. He was a devoted member of Mountain View Baptist Church.

Mr. Wainwright is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Sandra Hammock Wainwright; daughter, Kim (Dennis) Baker of Montgomery, AL; son, Jason (Tracy) Wainwright of Thomaston; brother, Gerald Wainwright of Barnesville, GA; four grandchildren, Ashley (Tyler) Leonard of Abingdon, VA, Jessica (Chris) Boehme of Nashville, TN, Jake Wainwright and Jordan Wainwright, both of Thomaston; and four great-grandchildren, Lexi and Rylie Leonard, and Logan and Baker Boehme, as well as a niece and nephews.
