Lorraine Clemmons Wood

Mrs. Lorraine Clemmons Wood, age 90, of Griffin, passed away December 19, 2025, at her home.  Lorraine grew up in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, daughter of the late George Clemmons and the late Nellie Warren Clemmons.  She moved from there to Griffin in 1980. Lorraine worked in the textile industry for many years. Her last job was at Dundee Mills/Springs Industries where she retired. She enjoyed gardening and traveling with her husband, Bert. She loved the Lord and was a devout Christian, and ready to meet the Lord, as she mentioned several times. 

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Elbert “Bert” Hinnon Wood.

She is survived by her children and their spouses: JoAnn Wilson, Tony and Cathy Payne, and Jerry and Karen Payne; grandchildren and their spouses: Sabrina and Randy Hayes, Travis and Rebecca Morgan, Jennifer and Reggie Corley, Amy and Rod Garland, Clare Elizabeth, Emily and Ethan Crowley, Jordan Payne and Olivia Payne; a sister and three brothers: Evelyn, Charles, Zeke and Gene; 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at 12 p.m., in Berean Baptist Church, 2677 Hwy. 41, Griffin. Pastor Tony Payne and Pastor Mark Davis will officiate.

Friends may visit the family beginning 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
