Martha Jan Bowen Flowers

Martha Jan Bowen Flowers, age 63, of Williamson, passed away May 9, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her husband, their children, and her brother.  Jan grew up in Williamson and graduated from Pike County High School in 1980. She then earned her degree in Occupational Therapy from the Medical College of Georgia.  She was a dedicated OT her entire adult life, even continuing to practice after her cancer diagnosis in January 2023. She chose to devote a majority of her career to helping local special-needs children: notably serving as the OT for the Lamar County School System for over 10 years and later opening her own practice in Zebulon, Gina Bowen Therapy Services, which she lovingly named after her late sister.

Jan grew up on her family’s farm and then later built her own home there, beside her parents, where she and Kent raised their three children. She enjoyed living out in the country and all the perks that came with it, like the simple pleasure of being by a fire…she was known to start one and then leave it unattended. She also cherished the peace and quiet of life on Drew Allen Road and would like to remind Kent one last time to not disturb it, turn his phone volume down, and put in his hearing aids.

As a child and young adult, she and her family were members of Williamson Methodist Church. For the last 15 years, she had been an active member of Life Springs Church in Zebulon and enjoyed volunteering there with Celebrate Recovery, and more recently during her retirement with Pick Up Pike.

Jan was devoted to her family, friends and her community. She was consistently regarded as a dear friend to many, whether she had known you from childhood or had only recently met you. Her impacts from her work with children and with Celebrate Recovery were widespread.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Gina Bowen, her aunt, Martha Thornton, and grandparents, Harold and Helen English and Charlie and Louise Bowen.

She is survived by her husband of 38 years: Kent Flowers; children: Bowen Flowers (Camila), John Flowers (Kaley), and Bethany Flowers (Hunter Statham); grandsons: John Shepherd (Shep) Flowers and Brooks Statham, who is due in June; parents: Johnny G. Bowen and Dale English Bowen; brother: Nathan Bowen (Antonia); nephews and a niece: Evan, Will and Lucy Bowen; many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Friends may visit the family on Monday, May 12 from 5-8pm at Moody-Daniel Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30pm at Life Springs Church.

At Jan’s request, the family will also hold a Celebration of Life event with 80s music one weekend this summer, time and location are still TBD. Details will be provided in advance on her and her family’s social media accounts.

Jan had one final request: she wanted all who loved her to know that she lived an amazing, fulfilling life and she really wasn't into being old anyways!
