Mrs. Martha Jean Ledford Mitchell, age 74, formerly of Concord, passed away July 31, 2025. Martha grew up in Jackson, daughter of the late Grover Wayne Ledford and Mary Emma Langford Eppinger. Martha worked at Southern Textile, Southeastern Textiles and Spalding Knitting Mills in Griffin and Maurice Sporting Goods in McDonough. Later in life, she worked in the cafeteria at Pike County Primary School.
Martha enjoyed having lunch with her sisters and taking drives to nearby small towns like Juliette, Woodbury, and Butler. She loved family cookouts, gatherings, and eating at Fresh Air BBQ in Jackson.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Marshall Warren “Red” Mitchell, children, Tim Sullivan, Dan Sullivan and Sandra Sullivan, brothers, Grover Clifford “June Bug” Ledford, James Ronald “Ronnie” Ledford, Freddie Rickie “Fatback” Ledford, Roy Carmichael “Bo-Jack” Ledford, Johnny Crawford “Bit” Eppinger and a sister, Dale Eppinger Cato.
She is survived by her children: Angela Sweatmon (Terry) and John Sullivan (Shelly); grandchildren: Adrienne Smith (Jason), Hope Wilkes (Kim), Cameron Sweatmon (Savannah), Jarred Sweatmon (Abby), Cheyenne Sullivan, Dalton Sullivan and Jordan Sullivan; great-grandchildren: Natalie, Jase, Ayden, Avery and Sadie; sisters and a brother: Faye Hoard, Evelyn Yeoman, Peggy Brown, Helen Gassett (Tommy) and Jody “Buddy” Eppinger; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law: Mike Mitchell.
She is also survived by her beloved dog and companion: Pooh.
Friends may visit the family on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 3 p.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor James D. Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Moody Memorial Gardens.
