Mary Ann "Honey" Norvell Coley


Mrs. Mary Ann "Honey" Norvell Coley, age 88, of Zebulon, passed away peacefully August 21, 2026, at Eternal Hope Hospice in Griffin.

Mary Ann grew up in Newburgh, New York and was the daughter of the late John Henry Norvell and the late Veronica Paloski Norvell. On October 20, 1957, she married James William Coley Sr., who was serving in the United States Air Force. Mary Ann worked as a bookkeeper for Western Auto in Morrow Georgia and eventually worked in banking for Wachovia Bank.

Mary Ann enjoyed working in her yard, crafting, and family history. Mary Ann had a true servant’s heart and was always willing to help others. Mary Ann was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mary Ann served as Relief Society President, Scout leader, Primary teacher and Emergency Preparedness Coordinator. She was a current member of the Thomaston Ward.

Above all, Mary Ann loved her family and especially cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James William Coley, Sr. and siblings John Norvell, Vera Silvagni, Donald Norvell, Alfred Norvell, Margaret Quick, Charles Norvell, Nancy Kline.

She is survived by children: Laurie Ann Swafford (Dennis), Belinda Coley, James “Jimmy” William Coley, Jr. (Heather).

Grandchildren: Tiffany Brooks (Donnie), Ashley Swafford (Upchurch), Brice Swafford, Kenda Clayton (David), Markus Patterson (Esli), Drew Patterson (Kayla), Kamie Trusty (Tyler), Kacie Lundstrom (Brad), Kodie Howard (Gary), Tyson Patterson (Morgan), Coleby Patterson (Emily), Blayne Patterson (Alycia), Kasun Patterson, Hannah Cox (Wade), Gage Coley (Maddie).

Great-Grandchildren: Dade Purdy, Emerson Purdy, Branton Swafford, Raelyn Swafford, Zayla Upchurch, Jett Patterson, Averlee Patterson, Kyle Lundstrom, Sarah Lundstrom, Kayla Lundstrom, Erik Lundstrom, Krew Trusty, Taft Trusty, Palmer Trusty, Hatley Trusty, Henry Patterson, Maverick Patterson, Ruby Patterson, Evelyn Howard, Holyn Howard, Jones Patterson.

Sisters: Helen Mitchell, Jean Norvell and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may visit the family on Friday, August 28th from 10:00am-12:00pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3748 Barnesville Street, Thomaston, Georgia.

Funeral services will follow at 12:00pm at the church.

The family would like to thank everyone who has offered their love, prayers, support, and kindness during this time.
