Mary Velma Fuss Mahaffey

Mrs. Mary Velma Fuss Mahaffey, age 98, of Williamson, passed away January 21, 2026, at home surrounded by her family. She was the youngest of 13 children born to the late Henry Bass Fuss and the late Nettie Pearl Kittrell Fuss of Atlanta. She and her husband, Bill, raised their family in Fayetteville. For many years, Mary was the secretary at First Baptist Church in Fayetteville and then drove a school bus for the Fayette County School System.
Mary had been a cancer survivor for over forty years. She was an excellent artist and enjoyed painting and sewing clothes for her family. Later in life, she and Bill moved to Pike County to be near children and grandchildren who she adored. She was a member of Zebulon First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. Mary believed in helping others and volunteered many hours at the Pike Outreach Center in Molena.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, William “Bill” Mahaffey, her daughter, Miriam Weston, her son, Roy Mahaffey, three sisters and eight brothers.
She is survived by her daughter: Susan Davis (George); grandchildren: Rhonda (Allan) Morris, Paul Mahaffey, Shane (Julie) Turner, Jered Weston, Chris Weston, Jessica (Anthony) Jenkins, Angela (Joshua) Kennedy, Melissa (Chad) Greene, Adrianne (Kevin) Murdock, Hunter (Dawn) Davis, Annemarie (Josiah) Metcalfe, Ami Jo (Ian) Miller, and Aubree Davis; sister: Jennie Cook; daughters-in-law: Barbara Mahaffey and Betty McDaniel; son-in-law: Jim Weston; 15 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 11 a.m., in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Zebulon.
