Patricia Guild Robertson

Patricia Guild Robertson passed away at the age of 99, peacefully in her home on Thursday July 16, 2026.

A first generation American, Robertson was born in Richmond, VA February 13, 1927, to Ion Roy and Iris Hill Guild who immigrated from the United Kingdom fleeing World War I. She was the fourth of five surviving children.

Robertson had a passion for education and graduated at 20 from Westhampton College, now University of Richmond, to become a teacher. She later attended Georgia State University receiving a Masters of Library Sciences.

In her 20s, Robertson served as a flight attendant, a job which led her to meet her beloved husband Floyd Alvah “Roby” Robertson who was an airline mechanic who always made sure he was assigned to her aircraft to ensure its safety. They were wed on September 8, 1951.

The couple had three children, John, Claudia, and Patricia who were raised in northern Virginia before the family relocated to College Park, GA due to Roby’s transfer to ever growing Atlanta Municipal Airport. Upon his retirement in 1985, the couple moved to Concord, GA.

In 1987, Patricia became the head librarian and branch supervisor of the Pike County Public Library and later served as the inaugural librarian of the J. Joel Edwards Public Library. Serving patrons was the joy of Robertson’s time in Pike County as she became an extended family member of hundreds of families who made the library a part of their lives every summer and countless teens and adults who used the library as a critical hub for research and job searching in the early days of the Internet.

Robertson served as the head librarian until 2012 when she was forced into retirement at the age of 85.

Though a surrogate grandmother to many in Pike County, Robertson was the beloved “Granny” to seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren.

Robertson enjoyed her retirement being surrounded by family and continuing her love of books which she read every day until her death. Her purest joy was travelling with her daughter Patti who cared for her in her waning years, especially their annual beach trip for Christmas time.

A private family memorial service is planned for later this fall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Robertson’s honor.
