Phyllis Jane Duncan Bright


Mrs. Phyllis Jane Duncan Bright, age 91, of Concord, passed away June 4, 2026. Phyllis grew up in the Lowell community of Carroll County and was the daughter of the late Oly Leslie Duncan and Metta Mae Trammell Duncan. She earned her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Georgia. Early in her career, she taught school in DeKalb and Fayette Counties before settling in Pike County with her family.

A dedicated educator, Phyllis taught English at Pike County High School, where she inspired generations of students. She served as the One Act Play director, coached the Forensics Team, and was the Literary Coordinator for many years. Through her love of literature, theater, and learning, she made a lasting impact on countless students. Following a long career in education, she retired in 2000.

Phyllis was an avid reader, enjoyed cooking, and loved animals. She was a member of Concord Methodist Church.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Mason Bright, Sr.; her son, Patrick Bright; and her daughter, Laura Bright Caldwell.

She is survived by her son, Robbie Bright; grandchildren, Marilee Caldwell (Bridger Warlick) and Will Caldwell (Layna); sister, Faith McClendon (David); niece and nephew: Carole McLendon Little (Todd) and Tim McLendon (Fiona); several great-nieces and great-nephews.   

A service to celebrate Phyllis’ life will be held on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Moody-Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor William Brown officiating.
