Shooting In Pike Friday!

The Pike County Sheriff's office arrested Fay Tompkins, 60 years old from Macon, last night after responding to a report of a person that had been shot. Upon responding to 118 Live Oak Lane deputies found Steven Murry to be the victim of a gunshot wound. He was air lifted to Atlanta for medical treatment due to his injuries. Tompkins was still at the scene and identified as being the person that had shot Murry. At this time it appears that Tompkins became upset about a verbal disagreement that took place within the residence. She went out of the residence and retrieved a handgun and then returned to the doorway at which time she shot Murry while he was inside.

Tompkins is currently in the Pike County Jail and faces several charges including aggravated assault and cruelty to children. Two minor children were inside the residence at the time of the shooting. No other injuries were reported. The suspect was a guest at the residence. The investigation continues into this incident and charges could be updated as the investigation moves forward.
