Spalding County GA – Spalding County is pleased to welcome Steven D. Maxwell as its new Director of Leisure Services, bringing more than 15 years of experience in parks and recreation, aquatics, facility operations, programming, and public-sector leadership.

Maxwell joins Spalding County after serving as Recreation Services Division Manager for the City of Decatur, where he led and managed a team working with recreation facilities, aquatics, programming, staff development, and daily operations. He has also held leadership positions with the City of South Fulton and Clayton County Parks and Recreation.

He holds a bachelor's degree in Recreational Leadership from Jacksonville State University and a Master of Public Administration from Troy University. Maxwell is also a graduate of the National Recreation and Park Association's Director School, a prestigious leadership development program for current and emerging park and recreation directors.

"Recreation is about more than programs and facilities. It's about creating opportunities for

meaningful experiences," said Maxwell.

As Director, Maxwell is committed to enhancing parks, programs, and services while investing in staff development and cultivating future community leaders. His vision is to build on Spalding County's strong foundation and create experiences that inspire pride, connection, and belonging for residents of all ages.

"Steven's passion for people, service, and community makes him an excellent fit for Spalding

County," said Dr. Ledbetter, Spalding County Manager. "We are excited to have him leading our Leisure Services team."

Maxwell looks forward to working with residents, community partners, and staff to continue

making Spalding County a place where people are proud to live, work, and play.
