Tragic Thomaston House Fire

The Upson County Sheriff's Department, Salem Volunteer Fire Department and Lincoln Park Volunteer Fire Departments responded to an early morning house fire this morning.

Sheriff Dan Kilgore told 101 news:

“This morning around 2:13am deputies responded to 717 Allen Rd. “The Covered Bridge Rd.) on the South end of Upson county there was a house fire at that location and the house was fully engulfed in flames and pretty much burned to the ground. The Salem Volunteer Fire Department and the Lincoln Park Volunteer Fire Department responded to that location but were unable to locate the residents, 39 year old Lashana Wonnum and 79 year old Geneva Wonnum..

Unfortunately after a search this morning human remains were located in the fire debris and will be sent to the crime lab in Atlanta for positive identification.

This is such a tragedy for our community and our thoughts and prayers are with the family and certainly going to be a difficult time for everyone involved.”

The state fire Marshall's office is assisting with the investigation.
