Tina Greene Coker

Tina Greene Coker, 64, of Thomaston, Georgia, passed away at her residence on August 1, 2025. Tina was a deeply loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

She was born in Thomaston, Georgia on July 1, 1961, to the late Mountain Greene and Geneva Adams. She graduated from R.E. Lee Institute in 1979 and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Mercer University, master’s degree from Columbus State University, and specialist degree from Troy State University in Early Childhood Education.

Tina married the love of her life, Sam Coker Sr., in 1980. Together they built a beautiful life filled with her greatest joys, their children Sam and Seth, and later their seven grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Gigi”. Tina adored her two daughters-in-law, Callie and Mary Ann, as if they were her own.

Tina dedicated over 30 years of her life to teaching, touching the lives of countless children with her patience, creativity, and unwavering care. She spent her career at the Montessori School, Westwood Academy, and Upson-Lee Primary, where she was known for her gentle spirit and genuine love for her students. Teaching wasn’t just her profession; it was her passion. She poured her heart into the classroom every day and believed deeply in the potential of every child she taught. Her impact will be felt for generations to come.

Outside of the classroom, Tina found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved gardening and spending peaceful days at the family cabin on the Flint River, a place that brought her serenity and happiness. But her greatest joy and passion in life was her family; especially her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She cherished every moment with them, and her love and presence will be felt in their lives forever.

Tina lived her life by a simple but powerful motto: “Be Kind.” She carried that spirit into every interaction, with family, friends, students, and strangers alike. Her kindness was quiet but unwavering, and it left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Tina is survived by her husband of 45 years, Sam Coker Sr.; her sons, Sam Coker Jr. (Callie) and Seth Coker (Mary Ann); her seven grandchildren, Marlie Kelly, Maizy Kelly, Tatum Coker, Beau Coker, Knox Coker, Caroline Coker, and Charlie Coker. She is also survived by her three siblings, April Lowry (Tom), Yodie Ellerbee (Barry), Lance Greene (Dana), many nieces and nephews as well as her stepmother, Wilma Heard.

She is preceded in death by her parents Mountain Greene and Geneva Adams (Leon); mother-in-law, Margaret Taylor; and her father-in-law, Charles Coker (Betty Ray).

The family wishes to express their deepest appreciation to her CNA angel, Sandra Gates; her hospice nurse, Amber Rivers; the Thomaston Hospice staff; and her loving sisters, April and Yodie, for the tender care and support they provided.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday August 5, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. from Mountain View Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Crystal Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Coggins Funeral Home on Monday August 4, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
