UPSON COUNTY SHERIFF DAN KILGORE ON SCHOOL SAFETY

We are aware of social media posts circulating concerning school safety threats in our community. These posts do not appear to be from a credible source. Sharing posts of this nature creates undue panic. Posts of this type are circulating in other jurisdictions in our state as well. We are working to determine their source.

To better secure our schools, and to ease tension concerning these posts, we will have extra deputies patrol our schools over the next few days.

In an unrelated case, a sixteen year old male was taken into custody, removed from Upson Lee High School and referred to juvenile court for making verbal threats to another student. This student made threats related to gun violence but at no time possessed a weapon or took any action on his verbal threats.

Parents are asked to discuss with their children the seriousness of making such social media posts and the consequences of doing so.
