Upson County, sheriff Dan Kilgore says Man arrested for making threats against elementary school

A Morrow man has been arrested in connection with threats that led to a lockdown at an Upson Lee North elementary school in Upson County, Sheriff Dan Kilgore said.

Demarcus Deon Spivey, 31, was taken into custody Sunday afternoon, Feb. 1, in Clayton County on warrants out of Upson County, the sheriff said.

Investigators say Spivey was responsible for threats made to Upson Lee North   Elementary School on the morning of Friday, Jan. 30. According to authorities, he called the school and claimed to be inside the building with a weapon, prompting an immediate lockdown.

Law enforcement cleared the building before lifting the lockdown, officials said. No injuries were reported.

Spivey is charged with making terroristic threats. Authorities said additional charges are expected as the investigation continues.

Officials thanked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office and the Clayton County Police Department for their assistance in the case.
