URMC Recognizes Treena Turner, BSN, RN with the DAISY Nurse Leader Award

Upson Regional Medical Center recognized Treena Turner, BSN, RN with the DAISY Nurse Leader Award. Treena is the Director of URMC's Special Care Unit, Pediatrics, ICU, Telemetry, and House Administrators.

The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by members of the family of Patrick Barnes, a 33-year-old who died of complications related to the auto-immune disease ITP. Patrick’s family came up with the idea for the DAISY Award, as a way to recognize the extraordinary care he and the family received from his nurses throughout his illness. The acronym DAISY stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. What began as a thank you from Patrick’s family to nurses has grown into a meaningful recognition program embraced by healthcare organizations around the world.

Nominations from peers and colleagues all noted Treena's willingness to act as a mentor to others--always putting her team first and ensuring their safety and happiness while encouraging growth and development.

Lauren Reynolds, MSN, RN, Director of Med-Surg and Hemodialysis, shared “Treena is the one of the most dedicated nurse leaders I have had the privilege of working with. Thanks to her I have learned what being a true leader is from the very start of my nursing career. She is dedicated to her staff and the patients that we serve. Treena is someone that you can rely without hesitancy. Now getting to see the leader side of her from a peer perspective shows me even more how deserving she is of this award. She makes sure that her patients are getting the highest quality of care, and that her staff is safe and taken care of. She is quick to jump in and help in all areas of this organization, not just her own. She invests in our leadership group and is willing to share the knowledge she has. It makes the transition into leadership so much easier knowing you have someone like Treena that is willing to help you in any way possible whether it’s budgeting or being a listening ear with a dilemma that you aren’t sure how to handle. When you think about a Daisy-Nurse Leader you should think about Treena Turner. She shows compassion, mutual respect, she is a problem solver, advocator, and encourager.”

Upson Regional Medical Center is proud to have Treena on our team of nurse leaders!
