Head-on collision kills Barnesville woman

(WXGA)- A head-on collision on State Route 18 in Lamar County claimed the life of a 76-year-old Barnesville resident and critically injured another driver, prompting a multi-agency emergency response and a temporary highway closure.
According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the incident occurred on Monday at 10:49 a.m., when Post 44 Troopers and SCRT-D responded to a fatality crash on State Route 18, west of Five Points in Lamar County.
The two-vehicle collision involved a Hyundai Sonata traveling westbound on State Route 18, which failed to maintain its lane, striking an eastbound Audi Q5 head-on.
The Lamar County Fire Rescue said there were reports of possible entrapment and children involved. Upon arrival, the fire rescue reported heavy damage, and that no children were on the scene or involved.
The roadway was closed until around 1:07 p.m.
The driver of the Hyundai sustained critical injuries and was life-flighted to Atrium Health Macon, while the driver of the Audi, identified as 76-year-old Linda Littiken of Barnesville, Georgia, passed away at the scene.
