On June 25, 2025, an Upson County jury convicted Jessie Jarrod Conaway of 2 counts of Aggravated Child Molestation and 2 counts of Child Molestation. The Honorable W. Fletcher Sams of the Upson County Superior Court sentenced him to a life sentence, followed by another life sentence, followed by 10 more years in prison, followed by 10 years on probation. He will not be eligible for parole until he has served over 65 years. If paroled, he will be subject to all sex offender conditions. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John C. McAbee and Assistant District Attorney Jonathan P. Richardson, along with the assistance of their team, Investigator Tim Ledbetter, Victim Advocate Monic Jones, and Legal Assistant Lori Harper. The case was investigated by Sgt. Casey Clark of the Upson County Sheriff’s Office.
The evidence showed that between June 2019 and December 2022, the Defendant sexually abused the Victim between 50 and 70 times when she was 8-11 years old. The abuse consisted of the Defendant touching her in inappropriate areas and multiple acts of sodomy. On May 17, 2023, the Defendant once again touched the Victim inappropriately; she was 12 years old at that time. The next day, she called 911 because the Defendant was beating her mother with a belt. She reported her abuse to Upson County Sheriff Deputies at that time.
“We are very happy with the jury’s verdict and the sentence pronounced by the Court. Many children who are victims of sexual abuse are afraid to come forward. The Victim was exceptionally brave in standing up to her abuser and putting a stop to it. My office will never quit fighting for survivors of child sexual abuse,” said District Attorney Marie G. Broder.
