This afternoon at around 2:30pm there was a minor airplane accident at the Thomaston-Upson Airport on Delray Road in Northern Upson County. Thankfully, there were no injuries to either of the two persons on board the aircraft.
Preliminary information is that an airplane flying out of Cherokee County Ga stopped in Upson County to refuel before continuing to Sebastian Florida. The pilot reported that he retracted the landing gear on takeoff and then realized he was not going to get enough lift to clear the end of the runway. He attempted to redeploy the landing gear but it did not have time to deploy before he landed and skidded on the runway and struck an antenna after leaving the end of runway. This occurred on the north end of the runway near Rocky Bottom Road. There is also damage to the airplanes propeller from the impact.

The plane involved is a 1977 Piper Lance,PA32R.
The FAA was contacted an investigators are responding to conduct an investigation. The Thomaston Upson airport is shutdown until further notice.
