Driver sent to hospital after accident with semi-trailer in Upson County, per GSP

Updated: 1 day ago

A man was sent to the hospital after being trapped in an accident with a semi-truck trailer on the wrong side of the road in Upson County on Tuesday morning.

According to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), around 6:20 a.m., a tractor-trailer was facing west in the right eastbound travel lane of State Route 36 at its intersection with Willis Road as it attempted to back onto the road to make a delivery at the top of a hill.

As a Ford F-150 traveling in the opposite direction approached the top of the hill, it entered the right turning lane in an attempt to avoid colliding with the tractor-trailer that was in the wrong lane. However, the pickup truck collided with the semi's trailer with its left front bumper area.

The male driver became entrapped, was extricated by first responders and sent to Atrium Navicent Medical Center in Macon for his injuries.

GSP said the driver of the semi truck was identified as a 32-year-old man from Monroe, Ga., and troopers charged him with driving on the wrong side of the roadway and improper backing.
