A 48-year-old pedestrian died Thursday after being hit by a Lamar County Sheriff's Office patrol car, according to Lamar County Coroner Clay Tillery.
Tillery said that Michael Brown, 48, of Barnesville. was pushing a bike across Veterans Parkway when he walked in front of the patrol car, and the car hit him.
Georgia State Patrol later said that just before 7 a.m., the pedestrian was pushing the bike not within a crosswalk when a marked sheriff's patrol vehicle hit him. They said that after impact, other vehicles also hit the pedestrian.
They said that the southbound lanes of the roadway were shut down for three hours.
