Richard Morris Blac

Mr. Richard Morris Black, a dedicated and esteemed member of the community, was born on January 19, 1946, in Thomaston, Georgia. He passed away peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment. He was 79.

Richard enjoyed a remarkable career as one of the first male Delta flight attendants. From 1970 until his retirement, he traveled extensively, specializing in international flights from Atlanta to Argentina. His contributions to the aviation industry paved the way for many in his field, reflecting his spirit of always serving others. He was a proud Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, achieving this honor through hard work and dedication. Education was important to Richard, as he was a graduate of the R.E. Lee Institute in 1964 and Georgia Southwestern in 1969. In addition to his impressive career, Richard had a passion for pickleball. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a devoted member of Thomaston First Methodist Church, where he built strong connections within his community. He looked forward to Sunday mornings with his church family and friends at The Gathering over the last few years. Many people came to know Richard through his visits to some of the local restaurants in town. He never met a stranger and was always willing to sit down for a conversation.

Richard is survived by several cousins, extended family, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Stokes Black and Jaqueline Wheless Black, and his twin brother, Thomas Stokes Black.

In accordance with Richard's wishes, no formal services will be held and interment will take place at Glenwood Cemetery in Thomaston, Georgia. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

The family would like to thank Thomaston Hospice for the care and love they gave to Richard over the last few months. Also, they would like to thank his caregivers Dante Davison, Eric Walker, Valerie Smith, and Brition Jordan for making it possible for Richard to be at home where he wanted to be.
