At approximately 9:30 a.m. today, a threat was called in to Upson-Lee Elementary School. The anonymous caller reported being inside the school and claimed to be armed.
Upon receiving the threat, school personnel immediately activated their Centegix safety system, and the school was placed on lockdown. The School Resource Officer and school staff took immediate action to secure students and staff.
The Upson County Sheriff’s Office responded immediately, along with additional law enforcement agencies, to secure the campus and conduct a thorough search of the school. During this time, all other Thomaston-Upson County schools were placed on a shelter-in-place as a precautionary measure.
Once Upson-Lee Elementary School was cleared, and out of an abundance of caution, deputies were dispatched to all Thomaston-Upson County Schools to ensure the safety of students and staff at each location. After Sheriff Dan Kilgore confirmed that all schools were secure, the lockdown and shelter-in-place procedures were lifted.
At no time was a weapon located, and the schools were cleared by law enforcement. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority. We appreciate the quick response of our school staff and law enforcement partners, as well as the patience and cooperation of our families during this situation.
