Upson County PROPERTY TAX BILLS UPDATE
As of Monday, Sept. 14th, Upson County’s tax digest has not yet been approved by the GA Dept. of Revenue. Several factors caused a delay in the submission of the digest; mainly the new property tax legislation that resulted in tax assessment notices being sent out later than usual and then allowing for the 45-day appeal process to be completed. Also, time had to be allowed for two local governing authorities to advertise, hold their required public meetings for tax increases, and finalize their 2026 millage rates. And with the majority of counties in Georgia going through this same process and submitting their own tax digests over the last few days, this has caused a bottleneck of sort for the Dept. of Revenue to get to these digests and approve them.
We anticipate our tax digest to be approved sometime this week, but no specific date can be given at this time as to when property tax bills will be mailed out or when they’ll be due, but taking in consideration that taxpayers have to be given a minimum of 60 days to pay their property tax from the day they’re mailed out, we anticipate the due date to be the first part of December; since Thanksgiving falls in the last week of November.
