UPSON COUNTY JURY CONVICTES HURLEY OF AGGRAVATED BATTERY

On May 14, 2026, an Upson County jury convicted Monterious Deangelo Hurley of Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony. The Honorable W. Fletcher Sams of the Upson County Superior Court sentenced him to 25 years, with the first 15 years to be served in prison and the remaining 10 years to be served on probation. The case was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney John C. McAbee and Acting District Attorney David J. Studdard, along with the assistance of their team, Investigator Tim Ledbetter, Victim Advocate Monic Webb, and Administrative Assistant Lori Harper. The case was investigated by Inv. Matt Allen, formerly of the Thomaston Police Department.

The evidence showed that on December 7, 2024, Hurley got into an argument with his girlfriend, Ashley Langford. They lived together in Thomaston with Langford’s three children. The argument became physical, and the Defendant retrieved a 9mm FMK pistol and placed it to her right leg. He then shot her in front of her children. Law enforcement officers responded and noticed the gunshot wound had large burn marks around it, indicating that the gun was in close proximity to Langford when it was fired. She was life-flighted to a Trauma Center for emergency treatment. Hurley claimed the shooting was an accident but gave multiple conflicting statements about what had happened.

“We stand up for victims of family violence, and we are pleased the members of the jury did the same. Domestic violence is never okay, and gun violence will not be tolerated by my office, especially when it happens in front of children,” said Acting District Attorney David J. Studdard.
